Pagani Industrie Alimentari: efficiency and simplicity with Cannon Bono FT200 steam generators
When efficiency, reliability, and ease of operation became priorities, Pagani Industrie Alimentari chose Cannon Bono’s FT200 steam generators to modernize its steam generation system and support continuous food production.

Pagani Industrie Alimentari: the client
Pagani Industrie Alimentari specializes in producing long-shelf-life tortellini and ravioli. These filled pasta products are manufactured in a state-of-the-art facility where modern technologies and traditional recipes are combined to ensure consistent product quality and reliable production continuity.
The challenge
In 2024, the company began to completely refurbish its boiler house, aiming to replace an outdated and inefficient thermal oil evaporation system. Steam was previously generated indirectly through thermal oil heated by dedicated furnaces, a solution that is still widely used across several industrial sectors in Italy. However, the existing system could no longer provide the required efficiency levels and resulted in less optimized energy management compared to direct steam generation technologies.
The objective was therefore to adopt a more efficient solution while maintaining ease of operation and suitability for a basic industrial process application, without compromising reliability. In this context, the choice fell on direct fire-tube steam generators.
The solution
The implemented solution included:
- Two FT200 twin steam generators, each rated at 2,000 kg/h
- Natural gas (CH₄) firing
- Operating pressure: 10 barg
- Flue gas economizers installed on both units for heat recovery
- OptiSpark control system with the OptiCloud remote monitoring and supervision package
The FT series generators, featuring a two-pass fire-tube design, provide a simple and robust construction, ease of maintenance, and reliable performance in small- to medium-capacity applications. The dry-back configuration, while less advanced than the wet-back design adopted in the SG series, proved to be the ideal solution for transitioning from thermal oil to direct steam generation.
The system successfully combines continuous steam production with rapid response to demand peaks, thanks to the steam storage capacity within the pressure vessel. At the same time, the economizers ensure good thermal efficiency, while the compact footprint minimizes space requirements in the boiler house.
The plant was designed with a philosophy of alternating operation between the two boilers: one unit in service and the other is on standby, periodically rotating duties. This approach extends equipment lifetime and ensures production continuity during maintenance activities. The system is also equipped with the accessories and safety devices required to achieve partial exemption from continuous licensed boiler operator attendance for up to 72 consecutive hours of operation.
The project enabled Pagani to replace an obsolete technology with a solution that is more efficient, reliable, and above all easier to manage, perfectly aligned with the requirements of a straightforward yet continuous production process.
