For InfoRLife, part of an Italian pharmaceutical multinational with a production plant in Campascio, Switzerland, innovation also involves optimizing auxiliary plant services. As part of a modernization project, the company chose Cannon Bono as its technological partner, leveraging an already established collaboration within the same industrial group and the ability to develop high-performance, tailored solutions.
The objective was to move away from using naphtha boilers by adopting low-emission technologies while simultaneously improving energy efficiency and controlling operating costs. In a context characterized by price variability between electricity and fuels, InfoRLife also needed a flexible solution capable of dynamically adapting to operating and market conditions.
Cannon Bono’s response was to design and install a hybrid system for steam production, which integrates a modulating direct-flame SG200 steam generator with an electric e-SG750 generator to produce 1.1 t/h of steam, completely carbon-free. The fire-tube steam generator, with a capacity of 2 t/h, is equipped with an economizer and a high-performance Weishaupt dual block burner fueled by LPG, ensuring high operational efficiency. The high modulation ratio (turn down up to 1:10) allows for flexible operation, optimally adapting to variations in steam demand. The system is completed with a stainless steel deaerator and an advanced supervision system with an LSS (Load Sharing System) load splitter, enabling synergistic management for the two generators.
A key element of the system supplied by Cannon Bono is the integrated scheduler, which automatically selects the most convenient energy source based on time slots, optimizing the balance between LPG and electricity. The strategy is based on intelligent resource utilization, exploiting the system’s flexibility to adapt to cost fluctuations. This approach allows for reducing the overall consumption and energy costs, while simultaneously improving plant flexibility.
The result is a highly efficient and sustainable solution that helps InfoRLife significantly reduce its environmental impact and improve energy performance, while ensuring operational continuity and reliability. The high level of automation, supported by advanced control systems like OptiSpark, also permits boiler operator exemption for up to 72 hours, simplifying plant management.
This project demonstrates how the intelligent integration of different technologies can represent a strategic lever for the pharmaceutical sector, supporting companies on their path toward more efficient, sustainable, and future-oriented production models.
