Cartiere Carrara: HE smart boilers for low NO_x compliance

Cartiere Carrara is a leading European producer of high-quality Italian-made Tissue paper known for its extensive range of finished products. The company operates multiple facilities across Italy and is deeply committed to sustainability, continuously seeking to enhance the efficiency of its production processes.

In response to the upcoming EU Directive 2015/2193, which requires significant reductions in NO_x emissions for combustion plants above 5 MW starting in 2025, Cartiere Carrara needed to upgrade its existing infrastructure. The challenge was to achieve compliance with stringent emission standards while enhancing energy efficiency and maintaining the profitability of its operations. This involved replacing outdated boilers and revamping existing systems to align with the latest environmental regulations.

Cannon Bono provided a comprehensive solution that included the installation of three high-efficiency steam generators and revamping two existing boilers. Implementing advanced technologies such as the Optimal Predictive Control (OPC) system and the patente HE Smart heat recovery system has resulted in significant benefits.

These innovations reduced NO_x emissions, improved overall energy efficiency, and minimized human error through enhanced automation. The project has also substantially decreased CO₂ emissions, contributing to Cartiere Carrara’s sustainability goals.
