Lanificio Fratelli Piacenza invests in a new Cannon Bono thermal power plant for increasingly sustainable production

Lanificio Fratelli Piacenza 1733, a historic leader in creating the highest quality fabrics and clothing, is firmly committed to integrating sustainability into its ambitious plan to reduce environmental impact. They have also decided to invest in a thermal power plant revamping project, replacing three old boilers with two new Cannon Bono steam generators.

These state-of-the-art 4.2 MW SG series steam generators, with a saturated steam output up to 6000 kg/h each, use a modulating burner with low fuel consumption, high thermal efficiency, and limited pollutant emissions. While the OptiSpark system allows instantaneous and accurate remote control over the boilers during operation, the new plant has included a heat recovery system, developed and patented by Cannon Bono, called HE Smart. This technology is designed to minimize consumption during any boiler operating program, ensuring stable steam production adapted to the needs of the production process.

For the Piacenza Group the issues of energy savings and pollutant reduction are central. Not only were they included as a priority in its materiality analysis in their 2022 Sustainability Report, but they are also in line with the 2030 Agenda’s SDGs — the sustainability goals set internationally by the UN.

“By installing new boilers it was possible to eliminate one of the three pre-existing boilers, reducing NO_x emissions. Data in hand, we went from average values around 105 to average values of 24 ppm, and CO levels below 15 ppm. Thermal efficiency rose from 92 percent FNO to 97.5 percent,” said Ettore Piacenza, General Manager of Lanificio Fratelli Piacenza 1733 and Group Co-Chief Executive Officer. “The sophisticated electric power management system of the fan motors and water feed pumps and the use of a modulating burner equipped with automatic excess air regulation guarantee better combustion, saving us up to 10 percent on electricity and methane gas compared to previous consumption,” Ettore Piacenza continued. “This is just one of the practical examples of the commitment Piacenza Group is determined to pursue regarding sustainability — concrete projects to achieve our goals.
